Jo MortonJo Morton's Front PageQuilt Gallery Jo Morton is a quilt artist, teacher, and a student of our ancestral quilt making. Her use of color and fine stitchery give them the feeling of being made in the 19th century, but complement furnishing in both the country and contemporary setting. Her quilts reflect the quality workmanship that commands respect and compares favorably with old methods and antique examples. Her quilts are made with history in mind, made to last and be collected. What is more precious than handwork and time.Jo presents re-creations of antique quilts, imitating colors and styles of period pieces. She also offers interpretations, using an antique quilt's color and/or design as a source of inspiration, she creates an interpretation - a quilt that might have existed in the 19th century. Small quilts have an appeal of their own and may be easily displayed. Her quilts are made in a lasting tradition, using selected new cotton fabrics (taking advantage of the wonderful reproduction fabric lines now available), cotton batting and cotton quilting thread. The quilts are produced using machine piecing, hand quilting and hand applique. The ever popular Log Cabin is offered in several designs and early traditional quilt blocks complete the collection. These patterns of the past reflect the integrity of fine craftsmanship and are produced in very limited editions.![]() Her quilts have been published in Early American Home, Quilters Newsletter Magazine, Ladies Circle Patchwork Quilts, and Country Business magazine. Her work is included in private and public collections and is available in museums, shops and galleries across the country. Jo has been creating small quilts with the charm of the antique since 1985 in her studio at her home in Nebraska. |
